This is a picture of a relic Criollo pod found in the island Tobago, in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. It was identified by the researchers at the Cocoa Research Section of Ministry of Food Production.
I have these growing on my farm in Costa Rica. Note the color of the mucus, I find in these pods it can be yellow or pink. Have you ever seen that before?
The tree this was harvested from was over 100 years old. Only four pods on the tree. during September we [Tobago Cocoa Farmers Association] will be gathering 'bud wood' ,for grafting planting material, to be planted on farmer holdings. Maybe in a chocolate in 3-5 years.

A beautiful-looking pod. Have you made any chocolate from this variety? How does it taste?
