We have also lost quite a few young plants due to wild pigs digging them up.

I did not at all mean to minimize the losses that can occur due to predation from rodents, birds, and insects. Many people don't know that crop losses due to pests and diseases can run as high as 50% or more. It is a real problem.

Not really a phenomenon but a real problem, the rats took a good ten percent of the crop. Since we are all organic we did not poison the rats, and our cats did not go out into the fields, we just let the rats run their natural cycle and have their fun, they had a party, they eventually moved on, we just have to harvest sooner and walk the fields at night. It was very interesting to study the way the rats gathered and moved the seeds.

Great photo of this phenomenon. I've never seen one so cleanly done.
