The Full Belly Project is known for many things, including a "universal nut sheller" widely used in Africa for peanuts and more. This video shows a simple jig that, used with a conventional cross-cut saw, can be used to score a cocoa pod to make it easy to break open and remove the seeds inside.I imagine with a little practice and experience someone might be able to get the timing down to 8-10 seconds/pod as claimed in the video, but it's clumsy in this particular demonstration.The upsides are that potential injuries from the use of machetes are reduced significantly AND the reduction of damaging the seeds by cutting them when opening pods.
