Most people who do not really know me think I am crazy to leave my teaching job and make chocolate. Those who do know me, know I have been preparing for this for the last, almost four years. They also know that the chocolate I have been giving family, friends and students is pretty darn good. Education will continue to be part of whatever I do. I guess the best thing to do is blend them until you know it is time to make the jump.
Beth, I have been struggling at my teaching job for some time now. I have worked in NYC public high schools for 20 years, 16 as a teacher. I have always worked in difficult schools and over the course of Bloomberg, teachers are now under assault by a bunch of inept administrators. I have always been an advocate for kids in a difficult system. Principals now look at me as a threat. I am way too good at my job to be treated that way. I have not been happier since I left. Because my wife can support the household until we are starting to make a little money, I am very lucky
