Hi Bart,

Great to e-meet you. My company is Rescue Chocolate (rescuechocolate.com). It's a line of all-dark chocolates and we donate all profits to animal rescue groups. Please be in touch if you'd like to get some samples!

Oh interesting. I've never had a really good alcoholic truffle, will have to keep an eye out for that.

Good Brazilian Chocolate

Yeah I would bet these companies are relatively new. Gourmet chocolate as a global phenomenon has taken off recently..I feel like the Europeans have had a great variety for a long while (I was in Germany last summer and was floored by the enormous chocolate collections of department stores!).

Good Brazilian Chocolate

Posted in: Opinion

I have just come back from Brazil and did a very complete search for fine chocolates in Rio and Sao Paulo! I found a few promising suspects. I haven't tried any of them, but the one prominent brand (in the duty free shop, too) is Damazonia (Damazonia.com.br). I purchased a box of assorted dark chocolates with amazon fruits, I'll try it soon and update this post. There's also a company called Nugali, I bought a 70% and 80% bar (Nugali.com.br). The 80% I opened first and to my dismay there was evidence of bugs inside so...I didn't try it. But the 70% looks safe. Then there's Barion (barioncia.com.br), I chose a 70% Wine Chocolate from that company, I suppose it's just supposed to be paired with wine as it's not an ingredient. Lastly, I found Neugebauer (neugebauer.com.br), they had a 70% bar called 1891, but they mostly make candies. I hope this is what you were looking for, but I will be back with reviews :)

Chocolate Europe- Brussels, Berlin...

Posted in: Travels & Adventures

I am going all over Europe this summer. While the schedule is somewhat flexible, there are a few cities that I am definitely hitting: Brussels, Berlin, and Prague. I know the former is a chocophile heaven, but it would be great to know if anyone would recommend a place there in particular or anywhere else in: Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, or the Czech Republic. Thanks!

Who has the highest concentration of Chocolate shops?

Posted in: Travels & Adventures

I was also in Chicago last summer and didn't feel like it was nearly so chocolate-friendly, not dark chocolate anyway. They had a few bonbon places. Vosges was around a lot. But yeah, have fun at Fog City news! That's an awesome place. And the Scharffen Berger tour is a must. Berkely and Oakland have their own chocolate places. I'm sure you've found more online than I did while I was there. Looking forward to your posts...

I feel like, just in the U.S. San Francisco may have more chocolate shops per capita than NY. Perhaps the most in the country. It is a very chocolate-centric, cacao-appreciative area!

Although my short review won't do it justice, I just have to comment on Biagio Fine Chocolate store in Washington D.C. I went in a few weeks ago and was blown away by the selection! In all of NYC there is not a place like it. It's reminiscent of SF's Fog City News in the wide range of bars sold. Biagio himself is very knowledgeable about each bar in the store and extremely friendly. It was a great experience to be in the store, and a whole reason to go to Washington ;) biagiochocolate.com

So besides the actual chocolatier shops here in New York, have you got any favorite gourmet stores with exotic selections? (beyond Fairway, Dean and Deluca, and the major groceries) Perhaps, in the outer boroughs?
