2010 Fancy Food Show

Posted in: Chocolate Education

The Fancy Food Show is the finest every year. I enjoy visiting all the booths particularly all the ones devoted to chocolate. There is much to see, sample and read about. Highly recommended. Buy your ticket before June 1st as it costs $35. After that it is $60. Your pass allows you to go for all three days. On the last day, booths that have come from abroad give away a lot of their samples as it is too expensive to take back on the plane.

2010 Fancy Food Show

Posted in: Chocolate Education

Will any members be attending this year's Fancy Food Show?

This is one show where there are several chocolatiers featured and several organic brands.

Instructed tasting of Milk Chocolate at the Fancy Food Show on June 29-July 1

At this year's Fancy Food Show at the Javits Center in NYC, there is an educational session of "A World of Milk Chocolate Flavor - A Guided Tasting."This is the first time that I have seen a seminar on chocolate and I am sure there will be many attendees. How many members have gone to the show and tasted new and different chocolates? I think it is such a treat.

Weird Flavors and Inclusions in Chocolate

Posted in: Tasting Notes

I tasted the camel's milk chocolate at the New York Chocolate Show and liked it so much that I bought quite a few bars to give as gifts to friends. To me, it was just a good piece of milk chocolate and enjoyable. The sellers were German from Dubai.

Weird Flavors and Inclusions in Chocolate

Posted in: Tasting Notes

A chef who had gone to Italy brought back a bar of chocolate with cactus pear in it. One bite was enough. I couldn't bring myself to ear more as it tasted perculiar at best.

Chocolate eating choices

Posted in: Opinion

How do you decide what chocolate to eat every day? Does it depend on your mood, interest or curiosity to try something new?Of the two pieces I like to eat every day, one of them is usually a filled one - I am partial to passion fruit and the other is a piece of dark chocolate. What about you?

Sorry Clay. I must have misread about the hot chocolate and I got the address for A l'Etoile d'Or from the internet so not sure if it is correct or not.

Hi Greger,Clay Gordon had also mentioned that he had delicious hot chocolate at l'Etoile d'or. It has two locations: 9 rue Aligre or 94, Avenue Philippe Auguste. Also go to Angelina for a hot chocolate although it may be a bit touristy.

Most welcome. What I also did when I was in Paris was just to walk and look at the stores and found so many small chocolatiers on the way and I went into as many as I could and just bought a piece or two of chocolate to savor.I hope you have an excellent time eating your way through Paris!

Where to Buy Cookbooks and Reference Books

Buying cookbooks online has it's own benefits, mainly that it can be a lot cheaper. However, there is nothing like going to a bookstore and browsing at a large selection, looking through the books and then either buying or purchasing it online.A bookstore I enjoy going to is Kitchen and Letters on the Upper East Side. There is also a tiny bookshop on West 10th Street devoted to cookbooks of all kinds.

Chocolate Cafes in New York City

Posted in: Travels & Adventures

Most welcome. I would like to add that Kee's Chocolates in Soho is a special favorite of mine and even though there are no chairs or tables where one can sit, there is ample room to stand and enjoy several chocolates. So do keep that in mind and if you do go there, be sure to taste the pitachio truffle (a favorite), the creme brulee truffle (a cult fave), the key lime and passion fruit truffle.
